Weeknotes #6

Every week, for the purposes of internal communications, I do a blog on what I’ve been doing, what’s been important and what I have learned…

Something we’re working on….

What I’ve been doing this last week

Well, I had a few days off so not a lot has been done this last week, by me at least.

What I have done this weekend though, is read a research document that my colleague Andy’s put together. It’s entitled North Staffs Community Wellbeing Network.

More on that to follow in a couple of weeks when we’ve formally adopted it as strategy.

What’s been important

The need to align the work being done by the CTRLshift people, the North Staffs social enterprise people, the Counter Community people and the Hometown Plus people has been important. It’s been important to not get distracted. We need to remember what the scientists are telling us: we’ve only got till the end of this decade for climate change to be reversed. How we get the peoples of the world sufficiently mobilised to take action is uppermost in our minds. Shifting the goals of our economic system so that capital can be allocated more wisely, has been an important and continuing piece of work.

What’s also been important this last week is figuring out how best to tell our story. When I say ‘our’, I mean the CTRLshift people, the North Staffs social enterprise people, the Counter Community people and the Hometown Plus people.

What I’ve learned

That we’re becoming very well organised. That we’re going to be hard to ignore, in a relatively short period of time — probably within the next six months. That we’re probably going to become experts in fixing the mental health crisis (as a region I mean). That we’re probably going to become experts in developing a new economic model that fixes some of the world’s biggest problems without destroying our planet in the process.

I suspect that this all might sound a bit arrogant, which is fine. We’d rather let our results do the talking. In that regard, we’ve been going 13 years now without getting bowled out. In cricketing parlance, we’re still at the crease….about to knock a few fours.

And by the way, if you want to work with us, do get in touch. I’m on Twitter Mike Riddell.
